Updated: Apr 23

We often think of wedding invitations as the first impression that sets the tone for your entire wedding. But spoiler alert:

That job actually belongs to your save the dates!

Think about it: this is the first physical item your friend and family will hold in their hand that represents your wedding day.

And when it come to first impression, you know, you only get one shot. So here's how to nail it!

The How:

Let‘s get this out there in the open right meow. Do NOT forgo sending a physical save the date card and decide to send an email/ text/ Facebook event in its place ...

This method may seem tempting (especially in our digital age), but here's the thing.

You are getting married! And that’s a pretty big deal, my friend!

This isn't just another Whine and Wine night with the girls.

This is the wedding you've been dreaming about since you first saw The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement!

So what better excuse to send some beautiful snail mail, amiright!?

Remember how excited you felt that morning you walked into 5th grade and found the invitation to Brittany P.'s birthday sleepover on your desk?!

Well, this is that feeling x1000!

Trust me. Paper is always best.

The When:

Now, when you send those save the dates is very important. Here are the recommended best times to mail those pretties to your guests!

If your getting married during a holiday weekend, prime vacation time, you're having a destination wedding, or expect a lot of out of town guests:

Send our your save the dates about 8-12 months before your wedding day. This will make sure people don’t already have a family vacation or getaway planned. This will also give your out of town guests plenty of time to book flights and take advantage of travel deals!

If your getting married during “off season” months and most your guests are local:

Send out those save the dates about 6-8 months before your wedding date. People are more likely to have the date free and they won’t need time to plan travel. So you can wait a little longer to send out those save the dates.
